Due to the recent retirement of our Artistic Director, and a subsequent restructuring, we have several leadership positions available. We are searching for motivated candidates who share our core values, respect our tradition, and can help lead us into the future. Our goal is to fill these positions before the 2020-2021 Academic year.

Executive Artistic Director – Full Time

The Executive Artistic Director (Director) of Virginia Ballet Company and School (VBC & School) is a self-directed and enthusiastic leader who understands and promotes the Mission and Values of VBC & School and establishes the Artistic Vision for the school and performance season. The Director both leads and collaborates with our Program Leaders, Faculty and staff to provide the very best dance education and performance opportunities for primary, pre-professional and adult dancers.  The Director is ultimately responsible for increasing enrollment, supporting development and student retention, as well as working within the deadlines and budget established by the Board of Directors.

Candidates should have experience as an artistic director or similar leadership role in a performing arts educational institution, and should have produced both full-length classical ballets and contemporary dance concerts. The right candidate has experience consistently meeting deadlines and budgets, preferably in a non-profit environment. Excellent communication skills are also required. Candidates must be able to build an environment of cooperation and respect with faculty, parents and students.

Classical Ballet Program Lead (Ballet Mistress/Master) – Part Time

Contemporary Dance Program Lead (Modern Mistress/Master) – Part Time

The Program Leads support the Executive Artistic Director by promoting the Artistic Vision for the school and performance season. This entails maintaining curriculum standards, faculty coordination and scheduling. The Program Leads works closely and collaboratively with the Director to produce all dance performances throughout the season, including rehearsal scheduling, input for casting and leading rehearsals. The Program Lead must embrace a team-oriented work environment to assure the highest level of education and performance, both in artistry and technique.

Office Manager – Part Time

The Office Manager of Virginia Ballet Company and School (VBC & School) is an enthusiastic manager who, with our Registrars, is the primary point person with our parents and students on all enrollment and financial matters. The Office Manager collaborates with the Executive Artistic Director, and the Program Leads to develop and administer policies and procedures that facilitate the efficient enrollment and management of our student body. Finally, the Office Manager is responsible for maintaining the professional appearance and clean condition of our facility.
